1605 | Digital Media A: 5 credits – grades 9, 10, 11, 12 – Fine & Applied Arts – no prerequisite

In Digital Media, students will analyze and assess current and emerging technologies, while designing and creating multimedia projects that address customer needs and resolve a problem. Students will implement personal and interpersonal skills to prepare for a rapidly evolving workplace environment. The knowledge and skills acquired and practiced will enable students to successfully perform and interact in a technology-driven society. Students will enhance reading, writing, computing, communication, and critical thinking and apply them to the IT environment. At FCHS: Students will be introduced to state of the art computer design software (E.G. Illustrator, Photoshop, and ArtRage) utilized by graphic artists and digital design professionals. This foundation-level course does not require any prior knowledge of design software. 5290S1 | Television Production A: 5 credits – grades 9, 10, 11, 12 – Fine & Applied Arts – no prerequisite

TV producers work behind the camera, putting together the different elements of the broadcast and making sure that everything works together smoothly. This course covers the essential components of TV broadcast production, including the use of microphones, cameras, videotape recorder-editors, switchers, and lighting equipment. The basics of editing and chroma key (blue screen) techniques are also introduced. Students gain practical experience producing their own video projects in the studio.

 

5290S2 | Television Production B: 10 credits – grades 9, 10, 11, 12 – Language Arts – prerequisite: Television Production I, instructor approval

This is the second semester following TV Production and is a continuation of the material. At FCHS: This is a broadcast journalism course that films a news show that airs 3 times per week at the beginning of period 3. Students rotate technical roles such as anchor, floor director, tech director, camera, etc. They also prepare scripts, plan research, and edit daily packages used on the show (sports, classroom activities, student issues, etc.)

 

5814 | Online Media I: 5 credits – grades 9, 10, 11, 12 – Language Arts – no prerequisite

Students demonstrate their understanding of a variety of programs and occupations in online media using digital tools that are widely available in professional media work. Focus is on producing content for online consumer-oriented platforms. Instruction will be paired with hands-on lab experiences in community reporting, both verbal and visual.

 

5816 | Online Media II: 5 credits – grades 9, 10, 11, 12 – Language Arts – no prerequisite

This course is recommended for students who have completed Online Media I and who want to develop their leadership skills while expanding on various modes of reporting and creating online media for specific audiences and online consumer-oriented platforms. Instruction will be paired with hands-on lab experiences.

 

1376S1 | Audio Video Production 1 A: 5 credits – grades 9, 10, 11, 12 –  Fine & Applied Arts – no prerequisite

This course explores the Audio and Video production industry and its post-secondary educational and career opportunities. Students will gain job-specific training for entry-level employment in audio, video, television, and motion picture careers. Professional-grade equipment and software will be used in the creation of student-led productions. Students will be involved in every aspect of several class and small group audio, video, and film style production projects with an emphasis on TV studio broadcasting and news production projects. Students will also be encouraged to participate as studio crew for district productions outside of school hours.

Students learn how to use digital video editing software to create, edit, and save movies.  Students create movies using digital video clips, digital photos, and music. The basics of shooting good video, capturing video from a camera to a computer, creating movies for the web, and creating a finished product will be covered.

 

1373S2 |  Filmmaking B:  5 credits – grades 9, 10, 11, 12 –  Language Arts, Fine & Applied Arts - no prerequisite

Students expend how to use digital video editing software to create, edit, and save movies.  Students create movies using digital video clips, digital photos, and music. 5281 | Editing: 5 credits – grades 9, 10, 11, 12 –  Language Arts – no prerequisite

This course is recommended for students who have completed Reporting and who want to develop their leadership skills while expanding on various modes of reporting and creating presentations in multiple platforms for specific audiences. Instruction will be paired with hands-on lab experiences.

 

5265 | Reporting: 5 credits – grades 9, 10, 11, 12 –  Language Arts – no prerequisite

Students are introduced to the variety of programs and occupations in audio/video technology, and communications and media systems. Students will demonstrate an understanding of how to gather information that may be published in print or online media. Instruction will be paired with hands-on lab experiences in community reporting, both verbal and visual.

 

7862CEFRHS | FRCC Adobe Photoshop I: 5 credits/3 college credits – grades 9, 10, 11, 12 –  Fine & Applied Arts – prerequisite: Digital Media A

MGD 1011: Concentrates on the high-end capabilities of Adobe Photoshop as an illustration, design and photo retouching tool. Students explore a wide range of selection and manipulation techniques that can be applied to photos, graphics and videos. Course competencies and outline follow those set out by the Adobe Certified Associate exam in Visual Communication Using Adobe Photoshop.

 

7477CEFRHS | FRCC Adobe Illustrator I: 5 credits/3 college credits – grades 9, 10, 11, 12 –  Fine & Applied Arts – prerequisite: Digital Media A

MGD 1012: Concentrates on the high-end capabilities of Adobe Illustrator as an illustration, design and  vector drawing tool. Students learn how to use the tools to create digital artwork that can be used in web design, print media, and digital screen design. Course competencies and outline follow those set by the Adobe certified Associate exam in Visual Communication using Adobe Illustrator.

 

7430CEFRHS | FRCC Intro to Visual Communications: 5 credits/3 college credits – grades 9, 10, 11, 12 –  Fine & Applied Arts – prerequisite: an Adobe based class

MGD 1017: Surveys visual communications, its history and impact on society. A foundation course for graphic design and illustration majors and a survey for non-majors who are interested in the field. Assignments require minimal artistic talent.

 

1735CEFRHS | FRCC Adobe InDesign: 5 credits/3 college credits – grades 9, 10, 11, 12 –  Fine & Applied Arts – prerequisite: Digital Media A

MGD 1013: Introduces students to InDesign, a page layout program which integrates seamlessly with other Adobe design programs. InDesign delivers creative freedom and productivity to DTP. Class discussions and independent projects supplement hands-on classroom work. At FCHS, Students are required to take Adobe InDesign A.

 

5740 | Adobe InDesign A & B: 10 credits – grades 10, 11, 12 –  Fine & Applied Arts – no prerequisite

This course concentrates on the high-end capabilities of Adobe InDesign as a print and digital media publication tool. Students explore a wide range of selection and manipulation techniques that can be applied to works for publication. Students will analyze critique and discuss original student writing. Students may serve as the editorial board selecting material for publication in the school's literary magazine. This class will include editing and publishing skills. At FCHS, Students create and publish the Remington Review.

 

5269 | Yearbook/Journalism: 10 credits – grades 9, 10, 11, 12 – English Language Arts – prerequisite: Instructor approval through Google Form application and interview

In Yearbook, all students will be expected to use their talents as best as they can to ensure the delivery of a top-notch product to our yearbook customers.  In the earlier parts of class, students will learn how to write engaging stories and captions, conduct effective interviews to capture stories around the school, and capture amazing moments with solid photography.  Then, as the school year continues, students will use what they’ve learned to create an excellent yearbook while learning transferable soft skills including teamwork, meeting deadlines, and and communicating effectively with a wide range of people.  Students are required to complete monthly service requirements by either attending events to write, interview, and photograph or helping with yearbook sales and distribution during and outside of the school day.

 

5130Q3 | Yearbook (Editors)5 credits – grades 10, 11, 12 – Elective – Instructor Approval

A semester course Yearbook covers all phases of yearbook production. Students learn to design layouts write copy organize materials select photographs and function as a cooperative member of a publications staff.

 

WBL | Work-Based Learning: Design & Multimedia Arts: Various credits – grades 9,10,11,12 – Elective -  prerequisite: Any Pathway course

Students build on prior knowledge and skills in the program of study to further develop and apply employability and technical skills that prepare them for success in future career and postsecondary education.
