Alternative Cooperative Education (ACE)

Alternative Cooperative Education (ACE) is a program that provides work-based learning experiences, classroom instruction, and transition planning for students who may have difficulty obtaining paid work.  Students learn work skills while operating a coffee shop and thrift store.  

After successful participation in in-school ACE courses, students may participate in off-site internships.  Students may also earn elective credits for documented paid or volunteer work outside of school. 

In addition to operating two stores, students are taught the basics of the job acquisition process (i.e., job application completion, writing resumes, interviewing).  Additionally, some students work to complete capstone projects to meet Individual and Career Academic Plan (ICAP) graduation requirements.  To do this, students complete internships and online coursework while developing a personal portfolio.    

Clyde’s Closet is the thrift store at Fort Collins High School.  Student staff members learn and practice skills that are appropriate for many entry-level paid work positions.  They are asked to price, tag merchandise, and sell goods to students and staff.  All students are provided with individualized learning supports as they are needed. 

Clydeccino's is the in-house coffee shop at Fort Collins High School.  Student staff members learn and practice many skills they need to master to become successful in the world of work.  Step-by-step instructions and supports are provided as needed to ensure each student’s growth as a staff person.  As staff members gain confidence, our customers notice improved communication, cooperation, and initiative.  Clydeccino’s staff are expected to conform to health code requirements, handle cash safely, and treat each customer in a kind manner.
