USA Biology Olympiad (USABO)

As the premiere biology competition for high school students in the United States, the USA Biology Olympiad (USABO) enriches the life science education of nearly 10,000 talented students annually. It provides the motivation, curricular resources, and skills training to take them beyond their classroom experience to the level of international competitiveness.

After two rounds of challenging exams, twenty Finalists are invited to a residential training program where they learn advanced biological concepts and exacting lab skills at the USABO National Finals. Ultimately, four students earn the right as Team USA to represent the USA at the International Biology Olympiad (IBO), a worldwide competition involving student teams from over sixty countries.

Science Olympiad

SCIENCE OLYMPIAD is a national organization that strives to bring science to life, to show how science works, to emphasize problem solving aspects of science and the understanding of science concepts, while developing teamwork and cooperative learning strategies among students.  Each school can send a team made up of 15 members to regional competition in February and may qualify for state and/or national competitions.  For more information go to the Science Olympiad website under Resources.

FCHS has a rich history in the Science Olympiad Competition. Our awards are numerous and our students benefit greatly from the camaraderie and academic success that our team promotes. We practice twice weekly and have three competitions per year.

Encourage your student to come and be a part of our Science Olympiad Team.  We work hard in Science and play hard, too!

Science Knowledge Bowl, Ocean Bowl  & National Oceans Sciences Bowl

Science Knowledge Bowl competition began in 1991 to encourage middle and high school-aged students to take a more active role in science.  During the competition, each team, consisting of four students, is quizzed during a fast-paced question-and-answer format similar to that of the TV game show “Jeopardy.”  The students then earn extra points by tackling more in-depth short-answer questions that are solved by the entire team.

Each school can send two teams made up of 5 members each to our regional competition in February and may qualify for state national competitions.
