Music ensemble classes at Fort Collins High School are a yearlong commitment. When you register for one of these classes, your teacher plans the year’s curriculum based on your participation. Ensemble music is a team activity, and the full commitment of every member is vital to the success of the entire team.  Therefore, if you register for an ensemble, you are committing to participate for the entire year.

 

2867 | Sinfonietta: 20 credits – grades 9, 10, 11, 12 –  Fine & Applied Arts – Prerequisite: previous orchestral string experience

This course is designed for the intermediate string player in a high school entry-level ensemble. Techniques of bowing, fingering, and tone production are pursued through the study of music ranging from Early Baroque to contemporary and popular styles. This group performs as a string ensemble. No audition is required. Performances are required. Students will need to furnish their performance outfit.

 

2865 | Concert Orchestra: 20 credits – grades 9, 10, 11, 12 –  Fine & Applied Arts – Prerequisite: audition

This course is designed for intermediate as well as advanced string players. Advanced techniques of bowing, fingering, and tone production are pursued through the study of music ranging from Early Baroque to contemporary and popular styles. The group performs both as a string ensemble and as a symphony orchestra by combining winds, brass, and percussion from an advanced band. Performances are required. At FCHS: An audition is required before registration. Students will need to furnish their performance outfit.

 

2860 | Symphony Orchestra: 20 credits – grades 9, 10, 11, 12 –  Fine & Applied Arts – Prerequisite: audition  Students will need to furnish their performance outfit.  

**FRCC Concurrent Enrollment Credit is available for grades 11 & 12

          MUS 151/152 - Ensemble 1/2  - 2 college credits - Year 1
          MUS 251/252 - Ensemble 1/2 - 2 college credits - Year 2

This course is designed for intermediate as well as advanced string players. 2870 | Chamber Orchestra (Tower Orchestra): Variable credits – grades 9, 10, 11, 12 –  Fine & Applied Arts – Prerequisite: audition

Participation is by audition or instructor approval. Chamber Orchestra players are selected string players from the Symphony Orchestra interested in performing music primarily of the Baroque and classical periods. This course is available to members of the orchestra. At FCHS: All orchestra students, regardless of grade level, are eligible. This class is arranged but most students meet during zero hour.

 

5237 | Music Theater Production: Variable credits – grades 9, 10, 11, 12 – Fine & Applied Arts – Prerequisite: audition

This one-semester class is an interdisciplinary course designed to develop skills in various aspects of producing a major musical. Instructor approval is required. At FCHS: Students who have been selected for the pit orchestra should register for this class.
