Interior & Fashion Design Course Descriptions

4340 | Interior Design 1 - Residential: 5 credits – grades 9, 10, 11, 12 – Fine & Applied Arts – no prerequisite, Fee $15

The purpose of this course is to expose students to various aspects of the interior design industry and is based on the industry’s professional standards (Council of Interior Design Accreditation-CIDA). The first semester focuses on residential design. Students integrate knowledge, skills and practices to evaluate potential career opportunities. Areas of focus include: Introduction to Residential and Commercial Design; Design Drawings; Professional Practices/Education; Design Elements and Principles; and the Design Process.

 

4341 | Interior Design 2 - Commercial: 5 credits – grades 9, 10, 11, 12 – Fine & Applied Arts – prerequisite: Interior Design I - District Capstone, Fee $15

4390 | Fashion Design & Merchandising 1: 5 credits – grades 9, 10, 11, 12 – Fine & Applied Arts – no prerequisite, Fee $15

This course is for students who are interested in learning about the fashion and merchandising industry. Students integrate knowledge, skills, and practices to evaluate potential career opportunities. Emphasis is placed on an introduction to fashion, fashion and textile selection, product construction and fashion merchandising. At FCHS: Fashion Design 1 focuses on design and merchandising with minimal sewing construction.

 

4391 | Fashion Design& Merchandising 2: 5 credits – grades 9, 10, 11, 12 – Fine & Applied Arts – prerequisite: Fashion Design I - District Capstone, Fee $15

This course is for students who are interested in learning about the fashion and merchandising industry. Students integrate knowledge, skills, and practices to evaluate potential career opportunities. Emphasis is placed on an introduction to fashion, fashion and textile selection, product construction and fashion merchandising. There is a lab fee for this course. At FCHS: Fashion Design 2 focuses mostly on sewing construction.

 

1391 | Work-Based Learning: Interior/Fashion Design: Various Credits - grades 9, 10, 11, 12 - Elective - no prerequisite

The Work-based Learning (WBL) experience allows for the application of the Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities that are delivered through the coursework of the Program of Study (POS). Students build on prior knowledge and skills in the program of study to further develop and apply employability and technical skills that prepare them for success in future career and post secondary education.
