About Me

Hello, Lambkins!  My name is Jason Cunningham, and I am excited for my sixth year at Fort Collins High School and my fifteenth overall year of teaching.  Prior to teaching here, I graduated from CU Boulder with a double major in English and history and then taught in all secondary settings in the Estes Park School District for four years, Mead Middle School for one year, and Northridge High School in Greeley for four years.  Aside from the first six years of my life in New York and Texas, I have lived in Colorado the entire time; after 20 years in Estes Park, I lived in Loveland for one year before moving to Fort Collins with my wife seven years ago.  Three years ago, I completed my master's degree in political science online with the University of Illinois - Springfield. This year, I am starting a doctor of education degree with a specialization in instructional technology online with Auburn University at Montgomery.

Here at FCHS, I am the yearbook advisor, a co-chair of the English department, and the teacher of PSD's very first Video Games as Literature courses. I am teaching Video Games as Literature I and II, Creative Writing, Yearbook, and Creative Writing this year. I feel welcomed and highly valued by the FCHS community, and I hope you do as well.

I love my family!  My wife and I are so proud of our five-year-old daughter and love watching her learn. She is in kindergarten at Linton Elementary School this year.  Along with our little girl, we have a Pomeranian named Kita a long-haired Chihuahua named Dusty, and a new hound/lab puppy named Mr. Peanut Butter.  In my free time, you'll most often catch me playing hockey or ice skating at EPIC, riding my bike around the paved trails, wandering around playing Pokémon Go, or playing Magic Arena on my phone.  Aside from that, I'm also really into Zelda and Pokémon video games, fantasy football, and non-stop podcasts.

All in all, I consider myself a man with eclectic tastes.  I enjoy connecting with people on a variety of subjects, and I can often find common ground on something with virtually anyone.  I am looking forward to getting to know all of you who are new to my classes this year and building on relationships with those of you I already know.
