About Me

Mr. Andrew Dutch lives and works in Fort Collins, Colorado. He graduated from Thornton High School in 2017 with his high school as well as International Baccalaureate Diplomas and Colorado State University in 2021 with a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education, Instrumental Emphasis. He is currently in his first year of teaching at Fort Collins High School as the Associate Band Director where he works with the Concert Band, Pep Band, Piano I, and Music Theory/Composition classes. Alongside Mr. Miles, he also will work with the Symphonic, Intermediate, and Jazz Bands.

While attending THS, Mr. Dutch founded and conducted two chamber ensembles known as the Thornton High School Wind Chamber Groups. With these groups, he put on performances with local organizations such as the Food for Hope Charity as well as in venues like the Auraria King Center Concert Hall in Denver. He also served as the THS Drum Major and the Interim Band Director during the Summer of 2016.

At CSU, Mr. Dutch has honed his musicianship and teachership to offer the best instruction to his ability. He participated in many ensembles at CSU including the Wind Symphony, Symphonic Band, Marching Band, Jazz Band, and assorted chamber groups. Additionally, he established himself as a student leader among the community serving as the Head Drum Major for the CSU Marching Band as well as the President of the CSU Chapter of the National Association for Music Educators in the 2019-2020 academic year. During the Spring Semesters, Mr. Dutch has served as the Co-Saxophone Section Coach for the CSU Middle School Outreach Ensemble as well as coordinated the program's MSOE Carnival in 2019.

In the Summer of 2019, Mr. Dutch worked as a staff member for the CSU Drum Major and Leadership Institute, a camp counselor for the Colorado Honor Band Summer Camp, an intern at the Seattle MusicWorks Jazz Camp, and a guest teacher with the Seattle Saxophone Institute. Recently, he worked as a Music Coach at Preston Middle School teaching various sectionals to students on all instruments.

Mr. Dutch's main areas of passion in music education include the promotion and study of the saxophone in all genres, the advancement of the artistic capacities of the modern wind band, the research of mental health (specifically personality development and disorder) within adolescents in the musical context, and the implementation of new technologies in all music settings.
